Newsletter 8

February 15th  2014
Dear Fellow Classmates,
Just 76 days away from the reunion weekend. I did say in the last newsletter we would have a confirmation from to fill out but we are still working out some of the fine details so it will have to wait.
We do know now that Maytime Melodies starts at 7:30 on May 2nd and that a block of tickets is being held for us until April 17th.  . Tickets are $10. We are not positive yet on the process to purchase them. We do know that Carolyn Born Kennedy, Ruth Rosen Levkoe, and Janet Macdonald Bowler are working hard on “Memory Mingle “,  the event before  at the school. Remember to send in your old pictures (in jpeg format)  from your time at NTCI  to Ruth at ruthleahlevkoe@yahoo.ca .  We have not set the starting time yet.  For those not going to Maytime Melodies the after concert party starts before the concert at Bill Humber’s house a very short walk away from the school.  Then the mingling continues at Doug Gammage’s house mid Saturday afternoon on Hillhurst Blvd ( where four of us lived on are coming) followed by going out for dinner at some local restaurants to  be determined .  The only events we will be asking people to commit to ( hough would like a rough idea of other numbers)  is Memory Mingle and maybe Maytime Melodies if the process is not to buy your ticket directly.  When you have such a good time at Memory Mingle you’ll want to come over to Bill’s.  We have a lot of people who are travelling long distances to come so would ask you local Torontonians to please try and attend as many events as you can if possible.
Hopefully all of you have visited that fantastic blog that Bill Schabas has set up and is running from London England.  The blog contains some pictures of the school’s 100th reunion as well as all the bios, grad pictures, newsletters and the up to date data  database of who we have found and their email addresses.  We continually find new people who are excited about coming so let us keep trying to find people.  And if anyone wants to write about or has the eulogy or obituary of any classmate who has passed away I would add that information as a bio as I have done for 4 classmates so far.  Unfortunately and I am not sure why  but some of you have not received all of the newsletters. And others  have come late to  the database.  So the blog is an excellent way to  catch up  and to stay current.  On the blog you can sign up to  be notified of new postings.  And please make comments.  I am surprised that there have been no comments on the photos from the 100th anniversary on the fact everyone looks the same as they did in high school.
As the blog is technically open to the world you can tell friends and relatives about it   I am sure they are anxious to know what became of your classmates.  But if you are concerned about information you have written about yourself or letting the world know your e mail address please “sanitize” ( to  quote Alex “Sandy” Sellers our tech and privacy guru) your bio.
I would remind you as per the 6th Newsletter we have a special rate for staying at the Best Western down the street from the school.
I apologize for some spelling mistakes and typos that have appeared in the newsletters (especially for people’s names) but I  don’t always catch them and my budget for a proof reader  is not much so please bare with me .

Newsletter 7

Newsletter 7,

February 12, 2014

As we are getting closer to the reunion weekend, activity is heating up. Bill Humber and Doug Gammage have their house parties under control – you just have to bring your own alcoholic beverage.  Carolyn Born Kennedy, Janet McDonald Bowler and Ruth Rosen Levkoe are working away on the Friday night reception at the school now named “Memory Mingle”.   More details to follow but I can tell you now there will be lots of decorations, a slide show and good food while we catch up with each other. It was decided it would be easier not to charge anything for this event but fund it with a 50/50 draw and donations.  Any money left over will be donated to the NTCI Foundation.

Next newsletter will be just a stand alone confirmation form to complete so we have a better idea of numbers.  In that regard  I reiterate that spouses are welcome and will not feel too out of place.   And they will keep their spouses honest so that no one claims they are brain surgeons or astronauts  ( unless they actually are ) .

We are still working with the school about our group buying tickets for Maytime Melodies and hopefully we will have that information available shortly. But you can start searching through your photo archives and start sending pictures to Ruth at ruthleahlevkoe@yahoo.ca
Make sure it is a jpeg file and not a pdf file – check your scanner on that technology issue.

The big news is that Bill Schabas who is coming from London England has set up a great Reunion blog on which he has  posted all the bios, even some not yet published,  the database , sections of the yearbook and photos past and present.  And being a blog it will allow for comments.  It is now up and running with the url :  http://ntci68.blogspot.co.uk/?zx=57e63e06329fef93.  Please check it out. It is where you’ll have to keep up to date on the database from now on so the email newsletter will be easier to receive and less chance it will go into junk mail.

Many more bios have come in ( and more promised ) including  one longer bio by Mike Guinness. I did not edit it .  Mike’s  story is quite interesting .  There will be a quiz about Mike’s bio so make sure you read it carefully.  And anyone who now wants to rewrite their bio to provide more detail,  please feel free to do so.

In the database I have published everyone’s e mail address so that classmates can see who is missing and contact each other. However in this world of privacy concerns if you don’t want your email circulated ( worried  it will be sold  to Walmart) please advise .  If you don’t want your picture taken also advise me and I will not take it either. Besides our blog perhaps some video will end up on u tube ( though I would not worry of it going viral).

We still continually find more classmates.  As we are working on the 50th    anniversary and not the 75th and therefore have only a few weeks left I would appreciate a push on to find people.  Janet Toppin Swan and I just recently found my old neighbour and classmate Naomi Siegel by just calling all the N Siegels in Canada .  You can do the same.

I had a few comments about “Why  You Should Attend Your High School Reunion” and a couple of classmates who said they would not write their opinion piece on that  subject  or rewrite their bio to state their opinion. Looking forward to hearing from you or leave a comment on the blog.
